Conflicting certificate problem in IE 7 in Vista

Internet Explorer 7 adds new visual cues and features that make it easy for a user to see whether they are on a secure site, and to check that the certificate matches the site they are visiting.

But I have been facing the certificate conflict problem with Vista I E 7 combination while visiting some of the sites.I don’t have any problem by opening with the Mozilla browser’s which examine the certificate to us and I could able to access to the sites.

This could be over come by installing the certificate in the key stores. You need to open the open the IE explorer as an administrator and install the certificates and then restart. It solves the problem.

Text to speech/voice/narrator/audio reader

Text to speech reader

I have been quiet some time on the process of finding a good text to speech reader or narrator to read the  content in an audio form or to  read the doc or PDF files into audio form.

In between I have tried very much with the Vista narrator option. But I could notice there is a limitation for this. As the narrator only announces the menu and sub menu and screen settings but not the content .At times after using the narrator it was highly annoying and a big nuisance when we start working in the system.

My friend suggested of having a try on the Ultra Hal text to speech reader. He suggested this tool  as it does a fair job. I have installed the Ultra Hal text to speech reader in the system which is a free version of the tool.

 

In the free version the 3 voices are default.You can adjust the pitch and speed based on the document.

Usefulness

• This program will read all the standard Windows dialog box messages out loud to you. This can be a great aid for the visually impaired or for anyone who just wants messages to be read out loud.
• The Ultra Hal Text-to-Speech reader is also able to read the clipboard contents.

• Having use of this function you can easily have it read your email and web sites that you visit.
• Your chat messages can speak instead of text message and you can hear the messages from your  buddy
• This can be a great tool for proof reading because hearing your text out loud helps you spot all mistakes
• This program can also be used for reading e-books. Why strain your eyes trying to read a book

 

Gray areas:

• With the free version Ultra Hal Text-to-Speech Reader have only 3 standard voices.
• The documents like word and PDF files when we open throws with special characters and hence I have tried with the window pane. Might be a limitation with the free version.
• The audio file format is exported to a memory occupying WAV format we need to use tools like audacity to convert to MP3 or WMV formats.

I was quiet happy with this tool as it served the purpose though with the minimum functionality. Some of the features as mentioned I have tried converting text documents with audio file formats and then compressed to a MP3 file using audacity.

So whoever are on the look out of text to speech reader or Text to voice reader  or text to narrator I can recommend this tool which is free. Over all with the basic features with the tool I would rate it is a Good.

How to clear old registry,temporary Internet files and files and improve the start up time and memory space in hard disk?

I have been using advanced disk cleaner used to remove Temporary files stored in the folder but has a limitation that it will pull out the temporary system  files which are active running with the system would also fetched by the tool. I realized now that it is not user friendly after using the CC cleaner in comparison.

How to create PDF files?

The acrobat reader could be used to view the documents but the limitation could not used for creating .doc or.xls files.Hence soft ware like Primo PDF would be the solution.The software add itself as a virtual printer and then generate a PDF document.

The document will go to the virtual printer and then we need to press ok button.You will get the screen below and then save it as a PDF file.Even we can do .doc,.xls ,JPEG etc

 

 

The soft ware is free and the

installer size is 10.8MB.

In my test I could notice it does the job fairly well.It would be an useful tool for every one.

Recent collapse of a high raise apartment in Bangalore

The question surmounts every ones mind that whether shall we buy a high raise apartment in Bangalore. The recent collapse of the the 14 storey apartment which was under construction from Prestige Shantiniketan.Definitely hammers the people who are about to buy a dream class apartments like Mantri,Greengage,Concorde apartments etc.

Already people who invested in such a high raise  buildings cant imagine this type of disaster. The apartments were selling at a rate 3700Rs/sqft.The apartment cost would be a minimum of 50lacs and plus.

The people who had invested their hard earned money to buy this kind of apartment. Just imagine it is not the question of the money they have invested, any way the insurance companies will compensate for the damage, it is the life and safety of the people who buys the flat. If such stray incidents happen if after people occupies the flat what will happen?

The block which collapsed is part of the 20 blocks under construction by Prestige in a joint venture with Shantiniketan. The top floor slab which collapsed first was laid only a few days ago.

"The police told The Hindu that the accident occurred around 5 p.m. when a small portion of the top floor collapsed resulting in the slab of the floor below it collapsing in a short while. Owing to sheer weight, the slabs of the lower floors collapsed subsequently, all in a span of 50 minutes, although the embedded steel rods prevented the slabs from falling in a heap. "

"According to an eyewitness, around 4.50 p.m., the slabs of the building started to collapse. Then there were around 120 people, including women and children. “Immediately after the incident, the workers at the construction site had left. Very soon they were sent to isolated places in a few trucks.”

“A Few officers, perhaps from the contractors side, had shifted all the workers to some other location immediately. They instructed the security guard and other workers at the construction site not to answer the media or the police,” he said.

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has taken a serious note of the accident. Directions have been issued to stop construction pending an inquiry. “

There are some question arises in our mind which is obvious for a common man:

• Even if they cite as an accident how the entire building collapse due to the fall of a slab?
• Why the safety measures have not been followed while construction?
• Is there any impact analysis done for the concrete structures and floors?
• Is there any governmental mechanism to track the structural stability of such high raise building?
• Already many high raise apartments occupied by the people Are those people are at risk or whether the government will take some initiative on this to see the stability of such buildings constructed and under construction?
• What is the criteria when the governmental agencies giving nod for such a high raise building considering the seismic parameters of Bangalore.
• Will the governmental agency is awake and whether the adequate safety is been taken care in the construction sites?

Now it is not the time to ignore this as another incident recently a flyover bridge collapsed in Delhi. This kind of incidents can not be ignored and openly throws the light the tracking mechanism is improper which applies to every one including the poor buyer.

I think it is the right time for people to throw away their myth or assumption  with just builders of reputation will be of always of good quality .As per murphy’s law If worst think has to happen it has to  happen and to  to any one .Proved to us already by the disaster of Lehman brothers.(158 year old company).

Just imagine the position of the people who have invested their most part of their life’s savings to buy this kind of apartments. Already the global environment and the stock markets are giving shocking news for an average middle class investor. Again this would not rub on the wound , atleast government should be considerate and safeguard the interest of the middle class people..

Inflation and recession

Country’s inflation has fallen down from 11.44 to 11.07 for the week ended 11^th October. But if you compare the inflation rate in the beginning of the financial year it was lees than 5%.   

There is a substantial reduction the commodity prices which are unimagined. You may note the stock of the crops and the food grains also expected to see a reduction. This would lead reduction definitely below 10% if not to a level of 5.

The finance ministry was very open to consider the reduction of fuel prices if the price fall below to a level of 67.Off course the much expected and one of the major actions pending from government side is the fuel price cut. Which we may hope expected to happen any time.

As because viewing the current situation Government was much sympathetic and very keen in looking at the aviation Industry and given an bailout option for paying the fuel outstanding with the due consideration extending the credit terms.to avoid job loss(lay off) happening to India at a mass level.

Even left parties may oppose for the governments decision for supporting the corporate's like Jetand Kingfisher .But on the other face of it , it is the survival of an Industry as a whole.If the Government doesn't understand their position .At some point of time even Government may loose money also.(assuming that  if the Industry dies )

Though the kind of Job cuts may be good for the survival of the Industry but the kind of way it has been done was forced Government to intervene. Also in one of the meeting  minister has curtailed the top official of Air-India proposed for Job rationalization.He has been censured by the minister.Also the Indian economy and the Industry is not as bad for such Lay offs.

But all the IT majors have shown a positive results for Q2.Majors like Infosys commented that the environmental factors is one of the major factor but then they have been maintaining with the pace of additional headcount projected which is around 25000 employees.

Some of the experts feel that the impact t is not to the level of western economy. If such mass lay offs are set as precedent then the other Industries may start doing that only for their profitability in such a mass level in terms of  ten thousands(10,000).Then it would be a real recession.

Further, the stock market has not responded to the counter measures taken by the Government to improve the liquidity by the way of CRR (250 basis points) and Repo rate cut by 100 basis points. It would definitely start reap its benefits. And an average middle class investor can think of buying a house or an Automobile. The shift of wait and watch mode to a buy decision. There would definitely a time lag to realize the impact as it is taking time for the Global economic stability.

Also one more announcement from the Government side to increase the ECB and set a limit of 500$(million).Also the debt redemption pay out by the government also expected around 90$billion.This decision of the government may balance the forex reserve and balance the dollar rates against rupee.

Looking at the current trends though the slow down is imminent but the real impact of the slow down would be witnessed only while passing through the phase of it.

To record something from TV at a specific time you have to set up the Movie Cube and remember to leave your TV on and tuned to the right channel.

To combat liquidity crisis Repo rate cut by RBI

The drastic measure taken by RBI and the finance ministry to implement the unexpected CRR cut and the much expected repo rate 100 basis point(50 was the expected one).RBI has explained in the staetment.It is sure as per experts the cost of money will be cheaper for the banks and the lending rates will reduce with a 6 months time horizon.

"India too is experiencing the indirect impact of the global liquidity constraint as reflected by some signs of strain in our credit markets in recent weeks. In order to alleviate the pressures and, in particular, to maintain financial stability, the Reserve Bank has decided to reduce the repo rate under the Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF) by 100 basis  points to 8.0 per cent with immediate effect."

Also the Governor has said."Risk aversion, deleveraging and frozen money markets have not only raised the cost of funds for Indian corporates but also its availability in the international markets. This will mean additional demand for domestic bank credit in the near term. Reduced investor interest in emerging economies could impact capital flows significantly. The impending recession will also impact on Indian exports."

Finance Minister P Chidambaram said that rate cut is in line with maintaining growth and moderating inflation. India's inflation reached its four-month low last week at 11.44% as a result of fall in the prices of various fuel products. Chidambaram also added that the repo rate cut will help enthuse the investors.

The repo rate cut is in addition to the number of monetary expansion measures taken by RBI in the last one month to increase the liquidity in the Indian banking system.

RBI has cut the CRR rate in last 15 days by 2.5%, releasing about Rs 100,000 crore into the system. Last week it also said that it will hold an additional 14-day money auction to help banks meet the cash requirements of mutual funds that are facing high redemption pressure from investors.

Finally what it means for the depositors whether they will enjoy the 10.5% intrest rate for the deposits  and the already overburdened middle class due to interest rate hikes in housing loans.Put a pause and see

To view TV program through Laptops

I have an IBM Thinkpad while purchase the default operating system was with Windows Vista home premium.It contains the media centre features .I was just cranking my head to find out how to connect the cable television and view the channels in my Laptop.I have just digged and then I found out that my Laptop has a limitation of the TV tuner card which is not a part of it  to support.

Review comments on Leadtek Winfast Palmtop TV

Recently so many external TV tuner cards are in place.But when I asked for the local computer vendor about this TV tuner card.He said that he cant guarantee the performance of any external TV tuner card and he is getting lot of complaints from the market .But not about this particular model.Even the popular digital magazine has rated as best model.If you want to ask my experience for the past one year I didn't find any problem.I use this mainly to record some TV program and it does the job fairly well.After proper evaluation I felt the decision is ok and it does the Job.

But whatever the software's they have mentioned are not much usable apart from the TV Tuner driver software because I have experienced some bugs in the U lead video studio and U lead DVD movie factory(any way those are all freebies only). I couldn't edit any movies may be it might not have supported vista that point in time.

So any one who wish to buy an external TV tuner card for LAPTOP can consider this particular device .

I would rate Winfast palmtop TV as Good.

Blood Group diet

There are some strange facts that we couldn’t able to figure out in the normal circumstances.Futher we are not even bothered to find time to explore the healthy diets required for our body. But the blood type diet hypothesis proposes that ABO type determines the individual's diet as each type evolved in response to available food sources.   

As every one aware of the fact O group is the universal donor and should be the oldest blood group. But that is not the truth. A group blood is the oldest his information has been available from microbiological research and analysis of DNA since 1990.The fact is all the 3 ABO type blood do existed several millions of years ago.

Blood Group DietThe blood group diet is said to have originated from two American Naturopaths, Dr James D'Adamo, and his son Dr Peter D'Adamo, who believe that your blood group type is the key to how you burn your calories, which foods you should eat and how you would benefit from certain types of exercise.

They recommend that eating to suit your blood group may, help you to lose weight, help you fight disease, boost your immune system and slow down the ageing process.

It is believed that a chemical reaction occurs between your blood and foods as they are digested. Lectins, a diverse and abundant protein found in food, may be incompatible with your blood group and adverse side effects may occur. The avoidance of these Lectins which can agglutinate (adhere or stick to one another) can be important if your particular cells-determined by your blood type,may react with them.

There are 4 blood types: A, AB, B, and O

Blood Type O

Here the diet was high in red meat and virtually void of grains and dairy. The type-O thrives on a meat-eating diet. Need good physical exercise to burn off the Carbo hydrates and protein.

Type-Os are prone to digestive disorders resulting from over-secretion of stomach acid. They can also be more susceptible to arthritis and thyroid disease due to overactive or hyper -immune system.

Wheat and dairy also promote inflammation in this blood type which can trigger an imbalance in the immune system and hence should avoid such diets.

Blood type O individuals can gain a significant amount of weight following a high carbohydrate diet, as their bodies cannot properly metabolize these foods.

Blood Type A

People with blood type-A do best on a vegetarian diet for weight loss especially the macrobiotic diet. Should concentrate in eating more vegetable and fruits.

The type-A individual hardly produces much hydrochloric acid and therefore does poorly on meat and dairy diets such as the Atkins Diet.

Type-As are generally more prone to cancer, diabetes and heart disease, if they do not take charge of their health.

Blood Type B

As a result, the type-B individual does best on a dairy diet with some meat (no chicken) and few grains.

The type-Bs suffer from the highest incidence of bladder and urinary tract infections. They are also prone to viral diseases when their immune system is compromised.

Since B blood types can metabolize dairy products and most foods, they will usually lose weight effortlessly as long as peanuts, corn, wheat, and lentils are eliminated from the diet.

Blood Type AB

The type-AB individual benefits from both the A and B type diets.

Avoid meat as it wont digest as easily as seafood, dairy, wheat-free grains and soy foods.

The type-ABs are prone to either diseases encountered by the Type-As or the type-Bs. By undergoing further metabolic typing, it can be determined which diseases they are most likely to be vulnerable.

For weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight, AB's do best on seafood, dairy, nuts and grains.

Investment during Recession times.

I have read an  interesting article 30 minutes to Wealth NDTV profit the context written in the article will be applicable for the average middle class investors. Actually it is the reality and experience of the middle class. The temptation to buy at this low levels as every one prone to have the same set of mind mentioned in the article.(Today's sensex had crossed below 10000 mark.)

The Big Question this week: when the first wave of this financial tsunami hits home and the first 1000 middle class homes lose their jobs it's serious enough to ask, is the world headed towards a recession?

Have you been shopping at the “End of Season Sale” in the stock markets?

A bumper sale has been on for the past three to four  months on the BSE and NSE. Many of my good friends fished out their shopping bags some time ago, seeing frontline stocks go cheaper by 25-40 per cent. What happened? Well the sale has got even better ! Now these stocks are 60-90 per cent cheaper from their all time highs.  Now they can shop some more.

Oops, am I rubbing salt on many a open wounds. But does anyone out there really expect sympathy if they treat investing in stocks no better than shopping at a sale?

My friends, you bought those shares only because you thought you were getting them CHEAP. Not because you saw strength in the businesses or liked the fundamentals of the company. In fact you did no research at all.

And now you’re burying your head like an ostrich defending your action – “Hey, equity is for the long term and I will make money sooner or later in these stocks.” Sooner or later? Is that how you build wealth? You’re still not willing to examine what you’ve bought? How expensive you have bought these businesses and what the future holds for them in the changed economic scenario? You’re NOT willing to cut your losses and switch to sound investments.

Loss aversion – this is the single biggest mental block in the minds of retail investors who dabble in stocks.

I may sound all knowledgeable and wise today, but honestly, it’s taken two meltdowns in the Indian stock markets and big losses for me to get rid of the  same block.

In the early nineties, as a novice and  a  very small investor I lost all the money my husband and I had carefully saved for his MBA, only because I bought stocks on tips and then refused to book losses, knowing jolly well that I was sitting on duds.  I repeated it again in the year 2000. Bought when everyone was buying…on recommendations from well meaning brokers, friends, anyone and everyone. And lost most of it.

“Yes it should be true for middle class investors and people who have invested in stocks have same kind of feeling .But if you ask for a opinion with some of the leading stock brokers they would say If you need to earn wealth  you should invest or be in stock market. Today’s reality is after feeling the brunt every one has to listen to the old style of keeping the saving either in FD or Bank account or investment in Gold (irrespective of the fluctuations in the commodity prices).”

Burnt badly twice, I  now  follow two simple rules:

(1) I don’t invest in businesses I don’t understand.

(2) I  sell,  even at a loss if I see a Company’s prospect changing from positive to negative. This time I sold my entire stock  portfolio three months ago. I saw external factors changing and no positive triggers for the stock markets for the next year or so. My home loan on the other hand was getting expensive. So I sold and repaid my home loan. It was a weighed out and calculated  bet. And it paid off. 

“Inspite of the fact that we have an opportunity to see these practical truths we are much hesitant to accept the truth and we are burying our heads like Ostrich as mentioned .”

So have I got it right, finally? I don’t know. But I do know for sure. I will not go shopping for stocks in a sale.

Investing is a serious business. I work hard to earn and save. I will not gamble. And neither should you my friends. The sale could be on for some time, tempting you.....

“But the sad thing is that it may not acceptable for an average middle class investor have a feeler that again I will make an attempt and I will win.”.

The first Sign of recession:

Sad news started coming from the Aviation Industry. Which is throwing  a clear signal of start of a recession for the Indian Economy.So far this kind of news have never took up so seriously. But this news has a significant impact and a bad Oman and the effect can cascade for the other Industries as well.

There are around 1900 jet Cabin crew and some pilots include in the list. The decision of sacking the employees looks so rude and tough If we think about the employees point of view. This action could be triggered and given Confidence to the Jet management because of the operational alliance they had with King Fisher airlines.

The top management spoke’s man Datta has told that the decision is inevitable and to safeguard the interest of the remaining employees. One way that is true.  

Viewing this issue beyond the employees sentiments. There are reasons to justify this decision. If we digg back past and see some of the old economy companies in the steel industry .When the industry was in the down turn the company has accumulated with severe losses and  some companies could not find a way to revive and only some of the big player have survived. Already the airline Industry has started bleeding. The low cost carrier model wont going to work .As it is difficult to maintain the cost .There is no other way of to over come this climate as the Financial Giants like Lehman and BSMA are falling.

The decision is ruthless but correct decision for the survival of the Industry. But the concern is the same effect will cascade to the hospitality Industry also. Sequentially start feel the heat in the IT and BPO segments also.

I remember sometimes back NarayanaMurthy has mentioned about the importance of saving money to the IT professionals. I think it is not late atleast the professional should caution and save enough Cash reserve in their bank account.

At times of recession it has always been proved that Cash and Gold are the saviors of those tough situations.

Robert Clive was born at Styche, the Clive family estate, in the parish in Moreton Say, near Market Drayton, Shropshire,

As a boy, Clive is reputed to have climbed the tower of St Mary's Parish Church in Market Drayton and perched on a gargoyle, frightening those down below. He also attempted to set up a protection racket enforced by a gang of youths who vandalized the establishments of merchants who did not cooperate.

Clive was expelled from three schools, including Market Drayton Grammar School and Merchant Taylors' Schoolin London. Despite his lack of scholarship, he eventually developed a writing style which caused Lord Chatham to declare that one of his speeches in the House of Commons was the most eloquent he had ever heard.His father packed him off to india to join in the east India company as a clerk

The Governor of the French East India Company, Dupleix, wanted to achieve a French colony in India, and immediately upon arrival in India, organized Indian recruits under French officers for the first time. Blue-ray burner -Some questions

1. Can I burn Bluray disc in my Laptop, I have softwares like Nero,Ashampoo those softwares having a burning suite for Bluray disc?

No it is not possible. You need to install the bluray optical drive /burner to your system. To enhance the bluray burner for your laptop will approximately cost $300 approx Rs15000.

1. Is it similar and cost wise it is same like DVD or is it expensive?

The cost of the Bluray disc would be approximately $10 to 20$. Approx 600Rs-1000Rs.

1. What is the benefit of Blu ray disc then?

If we really do consider the benefit of the Bluray disc in terms of memory aspect .We do consider an external storage device rather than that. But the high definition video formatting and the media files certainly have its advantages like  comparison to VCD to DVD.

4. What would be the price range of a standard Bluray burner?

The standard bluray burner of LG or Buffalo devices would cost approx $450-$600.Approx Rs20000. Also the devices have burning capacity for single layer and dual layer bluray discs. 

Though the technology has its own advantage and today’s need of memory and the media management this technology will pierce and reach the common man at an affordable price. We need to basically wait and watch and then take a suitable buy decision.

• The key benefit is the soft ware is freeware and easy to install. It was recommended by
PC World tool of the month, Oct2008.
• During the test I observed the performance is really amazing. It lists out all the files comparing each and every file byte by byte.
• One major difficulty is the difficulty in checking the duplicate files. Some instance if we do a selection to the entire C drive it does a perfect job. The point to note here it does a comparison for the files and not name wise (means it compares the contents of the file). Hence, if we have 2 same files with 2 different names then also it pulls out and throws as duplicate file.
• The critical point is that it is not an user friendly tool and it is little difficult to remove thousands of duplicate files. It would be advisable to use this tool specifically to remove the high memory occupying media file and image(photo) file the formats of JPEG,MPEG ,AVI or any other media formats.
• Earlier this tool was having some bug that when we give the option of deletion. It completely deletes those files from the system. Now they have corrected and taken care of this issue in the latest version of the tool.

• It bifurcates and gives a visual view of the memory occupied by the original and the duplicate files. You might shock to know the fact that the memory occupied by the duplicate files would be more than the original/actual files.

In short it is a very good and an useful tool.
